I was born and grew up in Bremen. In 1985 I moved to Hamburg in order to study geography and geology. I completed by PhD in the field of marine Biogeochemistry in 1995. Since 2000 I working at the Center for Tropical Marine Ecology in Bremen (ZMT). My over aching scientific interest is the carbon cycle, its responds to anthropogenic perturbations and its feedback to climate. More specifically I am interested in studying processes through which organisms influence their environment and respond to climate changes and perturbations of the carbon and nutrient cycles. <br /> &nbsp;
